5" BR Mk1 coach

I bought the 5" gauge D Hewson BR Mk1 coach from a modeler in NZ and have now started to paint and line it.

The first photo shows the coach with the basic colours and the second a close up of the completed lining.

For those interested I use a draughtsman's bow pen and Humbrol paint.

5" BR Mk1 coach

Hi Jim,

Those carriages remind me very much of what I used to see from our one room home overlooking the Camden bank. At 18H00 there were three express departures often with BR MK1 stock and as we over looked the carriage sidings there were empty stock moments day and night with usually two Jinties at the top end always bunker first to the north and three when times were pressing. Some trains were sent into Euston under gravity and some train engines used to collect their train and back into Euston.

I never did like the later liveries and your stock reminds me very much of life as it was.

Good morning Ron,

It's funny you say the sight of the coach in the blood and custard livery brings back happy memories of life as it was. That's exactly the sentiment expressed by the former owner when I sent him an update on the coach! It was a nice livery and as you say, associated with a life that was so much simpler and I think nicer than today. Now I'm getting all nostalgic.

I also have the full brake, you can just make it out behind the coach. I intend to letter them for the Eastern Region to match Boadicea's working life in the '50s.
