I thought members might be interested in these photos of some very nice NSWGR 5" goods wagons seen running on the Illawarra Live Steamer's annual 'Hot Pot' run and the Orange Model Engineer's Invitation Run.
Entry fee for the weekend Hot Pot Run is a can of soup!
All the cans are emptied into a gigantic hot pot and is served with fresh bread rolls free to participants. The flavour of the soup is always interesting and changes as the day wears on.

Hi Jim,
Yes I am always interested to see what others are doing as I might be able to steal, I mean borrow, ideas.
Hot pot sounds like our surprise lunches we had buying a can that has lost its label and have it for lunch but then I was a kid that bought broken biscuits. They used to come in foil lined card boxes and were sold by weight. Any broken ones were sold off cheaply just scooped up, weighed and thrown in a bag. Judging whether biscuits had gone soft by looking at them was an art.
I like the NSW stock. I found that driving a train was quite different from just a locomotive. Non Stop Wrestling sounds fun but is this to get the soup or the result of the scramble to the thunderbox after eating it?

G'day Ron,
The 'soup' was actually quite tastey though the exact flavour was a bit of a mystery.
Orange ME, the club I belong to is very much into scale rolling stock and as the photos show the wagons very nicely detailed. Pretty inspirational stuff really.

1210, the loco in the second photo was built in 1878 by Beyer Peacock (bld no.1767) and entered service with the New South Wales Government Railways (NSWGR) in September 1878 as no 120.
There were 68 in the class and they were popular as fast free steaming locos.
1210 had the honour of hauling the first train into Canberra on the 25/5/1914 thereafter it had a mixed career ending up (21/1/1962) on a plinth outside the Canberra Railway Station where it sat for 22 years before being returned to steam in the 1980's.
1210 continues to haul trains for the Canberra Railway Museum.
The 5" gauge model of 1210 shows the loco in its 'green' period rather than the the later standard black.
Cheers

Hi CPH,
No doubt we'll meet up, if we haven't already that is.
I was over at this year's NSW Invitation Day with my Burrell compound. It's a great club and the scale rolling stock is very impressive.
Hopefully one day in the not too distant future I'll get my Britannia 'Boadicea' running at Orange.
best wishes

Please feel free CPH they are lovely pics.
There's something really atmospheric about a scale loco and a rake of scale wagons. It's almost as if the hands of time have been turned back to a time when steam engines both road and rail were just a fact of life.
